I’ll be shackin’ up at The Hotel Derek to ring in the new year!
Friends are coming in from LA, and since one of them is highly allergic to cats, we are forced to stay in a luxury, trendy, fun, someone-will-make-your-bed-everyday hotel (darn it!). Of course I would love to curl up at the Zaza, but I figured since the Derek has just renovated the rooms and the restaurant, I would give it a shot.
(Full disclosure: Derek extended a discounted media rate for the rooms only.)
This morning’s breakfast at La Madeleine was a complete disappointment. If you recall a couple of weeks ago, Mom and I sought out the reliable French fare after the let-down at Lola’s. On that visit, La Mad delivered a decent meal.
Today was another story. Look at that! Do those over-cooked eggs loaded with onions look appetizing to you? I’ll answer on your behalf, “oh hell no.”
So, I’m asking for your help. We know where the best brunch spots are in town, but mom and I are looking for a low-key and casual spot (that isn’t a greasy spoon) in the Heights or River Oaks area.
Any suggestions?
Reeling in the best bass
I’m going on a mission to find the best sea bass skewers. They’re delicious and cheap and should be on every decent menu. Period.
Bond Street Sushi in NYC is by far my favorite, but I haven’t tried enough to crown them king just yet.
Unfortunately I’ll only be able to consider restaurants in NYC, CA, and TX with my own lips, so please fill me in on what I’m missing or where I need to go.
TELL US - Where is your favorite sea bass skewer? Or maybe YOU make the best! Do you have a good recipe?
