DIY Mom’s gift instead of buying it, like the good old days

This is my mom and I last weekend at our friend’s outdoor wedding.  She’s actually taller than me, but I’m in heels and she, being a smart mother, wore flats.

If your mom is like mine, she can be hard to shop for. DIY projects can be fun to do, thoughtful, and impressive. Sounds like we’re on to something here :)

Here are a few suggestions I found really interesting for Mom gifts.

1. Tin can votive holders with a luminous design.

2. Glass magnets with letters and/or words.

3. Kodak collage mouse pad.

4. Exfoliating salt pouches.

5. Cake stand with character.

6. Dip-Dyed Stationary (maybe you get a stamp to personalize it more!)

7. Canvas tote bags with iron-on designs. Also see here.

8. Make your own vase for the flowers you buy.

Hope one of these is helpful for you!

DIY at its finest

Have you see then the Craft of the Day feature on Stylist.com/Home?  Great ideas you can do to spruce up the house so easily! Also consider them for great gifts and afternoon activities for the kids.

When I Googled “DIY Eater egg baskets” I really never expected to run into sewing patterns and paper mache.  My thought was cute ways to decorate actual baskets….But the paper mache concept is cute!
Block Party Press gives you very detailed instructions here on how to make the “baskets” above.  I think they’re super cute and unusual and would entertain kids for at least two days.
For more DIY baskets using all kinds of materials, check out this list from Frugal Upstate.
And if you’re wondering how the Hallmark traditions transformed from Christian events, click here.
More to come on decorating eggs using natural dyes.  I can’t remember where I saw that article…
