HOW TO KEEP GOING EVEN WHEN YOU’RE SORE

Healing Faster with Active Recovery

After experiencing the unique intensity of a BLAST900 class (especially for the first time), you may experience muscle soreness. Rather than just lay around and deal with the uncomfortably tight and stiff muscles, there is a much faster road to recovery…….active recovery.

When a muscle has been pushed beyond it’s normal limits, it will experience tiny micro-tears. These small tears in the muscle are nothing to be alarmed about. It is actually required if you want your muscles to heal back stronger. We just want the muscle to heal as quickly as possible, right? Here are some pointers to speed up the recovery process and get you rockin’ and rollin’ again.

  • Go for a light jog / walk – this helps flush the muscles of debris and bring in much-needed nutrients.
  • Get in the hot tub / hot shower – heat helps circulate the blood and repair damaged tissues.
  • Get a massage – this form of recovery may require a credit card, but it is definitely the most enjoyable. A massage therapist can create a customized massage to focus on your individual healing needs. Massage has all the benefits of active recovery…..but none of the work!
  • Eat high-quality protein – protein is composed of amino acids. These are the building blocks of muscle tissue. Without protein, the body cannot repair its damaged tissues. Eat or drink your protein sources right after the workout for optimal results! Remember what we always say, “What are you going to do in the next 30-45 minute after you leave the studio?” That’s right, PROTEIN!

Remember, you can still BLAST with sore muscles. Just be careful not to do it on a regular basis. This will lead to over-training, which inevitably leads to injury! We have to push the body to see any changes…..just don’t push too hard!

I find yoga or two days of rest to be helpful too!
