I hope some fabulous actress finds this dress for a premiere.

I mean, is this gown not stunning?! And you can’t even see the side-tailoring or draping. That neckline takes plunging to a whole new depth!  Kinda like a J-Lo moment for the conservative gal :)

The fabric and design is by David Peck , a Houston-based designer who has worked under BFD’s in Paris and NYC.

I ran across this showstopper from his Spring 2012 collection at his showroom today while pulling a couple options for an event in LA.

Want a sneak peek at the other custom patterns in his spring line? I thought you’d never ask.

So inventive and unique!

If you need something classic you can wear and reinvent for every holiday party, might I suggest his current signature cocktail dress, the Hollen (above), that starts at $540. Considering you’ll wear it for years in every season and to countless weddings, it’s a good buy. You can see he makes it in at least a dozen colors.

He also offers great everyday tunics and shift dresses in an array of colors.

Just go browse the site. Word around the workroom is they have a sale coming up too!

Guys look fly in American Eagle

Even though their brand is marketed at boys, American Eagle clothes look good on men who insist on love being comfortable.  Sound familiar? :)

Once you get through all of the merchandise stamped with the AE logo, you’ll find great basics with a little personality.  They offer polos and henleys in every color of the rainbow and soft button-down shirts he might not complain about wearing.  The price is right too and they have sales regularly.

If he’s into sports, check out their college logo designs too.  More than fashionably tolerable if you ask me!

Need I say great Christmas gifts or are you already browsing AE.com with credit card in hand?

My plan of attack for a healthy holiday.

If life isn’t hectic enough, now we’re going to add holiday chaos in the mix.

With everything going on, we can find a legitimate excuse NOT to exercise.  But if we’re being honest, exercise can be the key to our sanity, not to mention waistline maintenance, when everything seems crazy and caloric.

So, in an effort to stay on track, I’m committing to my usual 6 days of at least 1 hour of exercise and a few diet guidelines.

First, I’ll define exercise as getting my heart rate up and breaking a sweat for an hour.  Therefore guys, golf just won’t cut it.

To keep on this schedule, I’ve hired a new trainer to work out with twice a week, will teach spin twice a week, and I’ll do yoga twice a week.  If you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford the trainer, I suggest:

  • Getting 2 friends to join in.  This way, the workout is fun and you are financially motivated.
  • Put group fitness classes on your calender.
  • Carve out an hour for a fitness DVD at home.

The point here is to be accountable and let someone else do the thinking so you can focus on the work.

We all know exercise isn’t enough to stay healthy, so I’ve also committed to a dietary checklist for each day:

  • 1 8oz fresh veggie juice a day ($3.99 at the grocery store)
  • 1 protein shake a day
  • 1 palm sized dessert (can be anything or multiple sweets divided amongst lunch, snack, and dinner)
  • No unnecessary bread
  • 2 cocktails/wine/beer (optional)

The Isagenix protein shake I like is filling, packed with vitamins, and sweet, so that takes care of a meal or snack.  The veggie juice will be a snack that serves as a substitute for the fresh veggies that have been replaced with roasted in my meals.  My usual diet usually involves dessert, but of the healthier variety (gluten free, no processed sugar, etc).  No one else I know bakes like that so I’m being realistic on that one.  Otherwise, everything else will stay the same, which is generally really healthy anyway. You know I hate food from a box and needless sauces.

Hangovers have been haunting me lately after only a couple drinks so I have a major incentive to go easy on the booze.

Plus, I taught spin then indulged in a basket of chicken fingers and fries with multiple beers watching the Texans game, so I’m thinking I’m ready for this holiday regimen.

You have a plan or just going to wing it?

Opt for silk instead of skin this winter

Leather pants are on every fashionista’s lust list for fall and winter.  But they’re not exactly budget friendly.  If you’re looking to add glam, go on the hunt for some silk instead of skins.  I’ve recently seen this new line from Miami called Alexis popping up in high-end boutiques.  The pricepoint starts at $120.  Dresses and silk pants range from $250-$350.  These prices aren’t “cheap,” but they are more managable than $600+ for leather pieces.

It's hard to find facial balance

Thought I’d give you a little update on my face that was under siege last week.

For the last 7 days I’ve been playing defense with the prescriptive treatment cremes.  They worked like a charm without the antibiotics.  As most of you predicted, now my face is dry, so, I’m ditching the acne creme and going back to my regular routine.

What I need to do is find a way to exfoliate my skin without drying it out.  The Clairsonic brush was working wonders, but then I lost the charger.  Now I’m hearing rumors that the circular motion causes wrinkles, so I’m thinking about ditching it altogether.  Apparently there is a new brush that wiggles so it doesn’t loosen your skin.  Anyone know what I’m referring to?

My best bet is to head back to the Peter Thomas Roth buffing beads cleanser I loved last year.  What I REALLLY want is the new Rodan + Fields anti-aging regimen ($334 every 6 months).  I love this product so much because it smooths out your skin and reduces the size of your pores - two things Botox can’t do.  I’ve used it on my hands and saw a difference instantly that lasted for days. The Ahava products I use feel amazing to the touch, but haven’t changed the texture of my skin drastically.

What to do, what to do….

Meet my new boots from House of Harlow

I saw these killer House of Harlow wedges and instantly knew one of the three would be mine!

Ok. That’s not exactly accurate.  I fell in love with sexy wedge, tried on the taupe first to discover they are so comfortable, switched to the brown for the versatile color and fur, asked the price, heard they were only $325 even though they looked $950, and whipped out my debit card without hesitation.

If you’ve got the same gut feeling, here’s where you can find them online:

  • Brown with fur $325
  • Black with fur $325
  • Leopard $260 on sale
  • Taupe $295
  • Black (same style as taupe) $295

The opening is thankfully slender so plan on wearing with tights or jeggings.

(House of Harlow is Nicole Ritchie’s line of funky and fashionable accessories that are reasonably priced.  At least in this case.  The jewelry looks a little cheap for the price to me.)
