Wouldn't it be nice to NOT spend a fortune on...
The first thing that comes to mind when people think about travel is unfortunately not the amazing experience they’re going to have, but instead how much it’s going to cost.
So in an effort to help alleviate some of that stress, one thing you can do is plan ahead and browse your options.
The first thing you should decide is what kind of vacation you want to take: city, beach, snow,...

To Rush or Not To Rush?
This was the question a reader emailed me last week. She is concerned that since she’s not a girly girl, would she enjoy the experience.
Here’s what I wrote to her:
You sound exactly like me in terms of guy and girl friends. I’m definitely more comfortable around guys and hate needless drama.
I went to school far away too, which is why I wanted to be in a sorority (and...

Mind the Gap
Mary Note: Wow, I can’t say I’ve ever disagreed with Andrew more about men’s clothes at the Gap. In fact, I have been jealous to see so many great classic pieces on the men’s side while all of the women’s clothes look frumpy. However, after seeing these ads he pulled I can understand his perspective. The tricky part is that these looks are TRENDY for the average...

I scored big for lunch today!
For lunch, I was planning on going to Diet Gourmet (think Subway but they actually use fresh veggies and real chicken), but I decided to try out the little wine and tapas bar next door.
For tapas the menu was light, fresh, and cheap. Above is my grilled portabella “sandwich” with roasted rosemary potatoes for $7! (Remember I’m cutting out flour...

Don't Think, Just Do It!
Last week I completed 100 crunches everyday, did you?? Wouldn’t you know my tummy is a little tighter and absolutely stronger!
This week’s quickie is one you can do at your office…anywhere really. And as our trainer Jeff says, exercise is a great way to rev up your engine when you’re feeling sluggish in the afternoon.
100 tricep dips
EVERYDAY.
No questions or excuses.

This should get you going Wednesday morning!
Umm…wow. That is more man than I’ve ever had to handle. Or, I should say, had the pleasure of handling :)
The hot bod belongs to MTM trainer Jeff Halevy!
Catch him on the CBS morning show at 8:30am EST (or set your DVR). He’s talking about the importance of incorporating weightlifting for women.
LIFTING WEIGHTS WILL NOT MAKE YOU BIGGER.
It will burn fat and increase your...

Beat The Afternoon Energy Slump
Mary Note: When I feel tired around 3pm, I always grab a coffee, but find that it really doesn’t pick me up like I want it to. Something else I do, which is much more effective, is take the stairs to get my heart pumping a little faster. That tactic makes Jeff’s list!

People tell me all time they get really tired midday. Their first...

What do you believe in?
The question isn’t as simple as it seems.
Have you stopped to think about it lately…
What do you believe to true without a doubt?
Where do you find your strength?
What do you wish you believed in?
I sat with that today for a while. I let my mind and my heart wander…..the exploration was anything but easy…I challenged myself. And I found that my beliefs are few, my faith...

Delicious Dish: Cheesy Roasted Cauliflower that's...
Obviously Nutritionista and I are both excited about cheese these days. The fact that she says cheese is healthy makes this recipe even more amazing.
I found this article in the NY Times in which the chef explains how her recipes evolve over time and for the seasons. I change up my food depending on the weather, but usually I’m a by-the-book cook unless someone suggests changes.

Don't Get Cheesed about Cheese
MR Note: This is the best news I’ve heard all week!! I’m obsessed with the Under $3 bin at Whole Foods and any soft white cheese that melts in my mouth at room temperature. Umm…did that come out wrong?

Sorry for the cheesy title. And sorry again for the bad pun!
Recently, I got a reader question about this New York Times article. The gist of the...

Finding Heaven
I realize this is a controversial title and topic. Couple that with my rule about not discussing religion or politics in public, and all signs point to NOT posting about heaven.
But Chris’ sermon really hit home for me on Sunday (unbelievable how he actually does that every week), so I thought you might want to hear a different entry way to heaven. As with most topics, Chris explored...

Rocker Style 101
MR Note: Dressing for a concert is always a challenge for me, but I always follow Lindsey’s philosophy below. I rock a wife beater and jeans with a smoky eye and awesome accessories. We do differ on shoes though. I have to wear heels to get my groove on.

Golden Globe Style Success??
So here are some of the fan favorite stars of the night, but is their style as successful?? Claire Danes was the hands down winner in my book - although this picture makes the dress look pink instead of salmon. In general, the red carpet pics never do the gowns or women justice. On the other hand, the men always look so much better. Typical.
Thoughts? Who did you love?

Don't Think, Just Do Weekly Workout
I’ll be the first to admit I DID NOT do 20 pushups every day last week. Ugh.
How that’s possible I’m not sure because it only takes a minute. But I absolutely got busy and missed a couple days.
This week, no excuses. 100 crunches, your choice of style, EVERYDAY.

On either side of the Aria Hotel and Casino, which serves as the heart of the new City Center on The Las Vegas Strip are two extreme opposite venues - the super luxe and small Mandarin Oriental hotel and the wanna-be glitzy and glam Cosmopolitan.
(Technically The Cosmopolitan is not part of City Center, but since everyone thinks it is, and it’s connected via sky bridge, I’ve ...

You can and should detox in Vegas
I usually get a colonic during a cleanse, but it can also be helpful after a big intox like the holidays or Vegas. Coincidentally, I have just been through both!

Delicious Dish: Vanilla Balsamic Chicken
This recipe sounds unusual which is exactly why I chose it from Cooking Light. I am get bored of the same old flavors, ya know! But it only requires one pot and one pan, which you know is crucial for me :)
Once you make the reduction (which is super easy), you’ll question whether or not it will be too intense, but I assure you, it’s damn good. Serve with something salty.

No Gamble Here! — Vic and Anthony’s (Las Vegas and Houston)
In my southern opinion, the true testament of a steakhouse is how you feel when you leave. Assuming you don’t eat every morsel on the table, you shouldn’t feel like you need a wheelbarrow to get to your car. Good meat, potatoes, and veggies don’t need to be laden with butter and cheese. Head chef Carlos Rodriguez of Vic &...

My Vegas Strip Cred
I think it would be helpful for you to know my background with Vegas as I offer these reviews and seemingly snap judgements.

The new Vegas is sleek and chic -- City Center...
While in Las Vegas for CES, I’m touring the new City Center to write an article for The Chronicle.
With the Aria as the heart and soul of the 18 million square foot compound run by MGM, the aesthetic is nothing like you’ve seen in Vegas before. Natural light streams in from all angles, the decor is modern and sophisticated, and only 2% of the property is casino. You’ll...
